Immediate Stop-Work Mandate

✗ DO NOT VACUUM OR SWEEP: Standard domestic or shop vacuums blow microscopic asbestos fibers directly through their filters into the room air, creating a severe airborne health hazard.

✓ STOP WORK IMMEDIATELY: Cease all power tools, sawing, or demolition in the area and isolate the room.

The 5-Step Stop-Work Action Protocol

Step 1: Cease Work & Evacuate the Zone: Immediately power down all tools. Have everyone vacate the immediate work area to prevent tracking debris.
Step 2: Isolate Air Circulation & Seal Doors: Turn off air conditioning units, fans, and ventilation systems. Close doors and windows to contain airborne dust.
Step 3: Post Warning Signage: Barricade the entry with hazard tape or a clear handwritten notice: "DANGER – SUSPECTED ASBESTOS – DO NOT ENTER".
Step 4: Engage Licensed NATA Testing: Have a licensed hazmat technician take a controlled micro-sample for 24-hour Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) analysis.
Step 5: Licensed Removal & Clearance: If positive, engage a Class A or Class B licensed contractor to remove the material under full containment and issue a Clearance Certificate.

Under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (QLD), any workplace where uncontrolled asbestos disturbance occurs must implement immediate containment measures and prevent re-entry until certified safe.
